Frequently Asked Questions
Are there paint cleaning liquids that I can’t use with the BruKon brush container?
The BruKon brush container is designed to withstand paint cleaning solutions and chemicals such as mineral turps, ethanol, citrus-based cleaners, other solvents, thinners, oils, and much more.
How does the BruKon brush container compare to other cleaning and storage solutions?
The BruKon brush container is unique and one of a kind amongst paint brush cleaning products and is the best of the breed for paint brush maintenance. Modestly priced, reusable, and straightforward to use.
Unlike many modern alternatives, BruKon does not require prescribed chemical additives that cost extra or some chemicals to create fumes or even specific solvents. You can use any paintbrush and the substance that works best to clean the paint you are using. This natural cleaning and storage method with BruKon brush containers is a timesaver for both DIY painters, tradespeople, artists, and our environment — a true win-win.
Why is BruKon better than wrapping brushes in plastic or cling film?
Wrapping brushes in cling film or plastic bags may slow the paint drying down a little, but it does not prevent paint hardening, and it cannot clean the brush. BruKon keeps bristles wet in the least amount of liquid required to release paint particles through gentle movement and keeps your brush in shape by elevating them off their bristles.
Plastic-based storage generally creates unnecessary waste, whereas BruKon is reusable and environmentally responsible.
How long can I keep brushes in water, turps, or cleaning fluid?
This all depends on brush quality, materials, cleaning fluid type, temperature, sunlight, and humidity. Cheap and nasty brushes fail far sooner than high-quality stainless steel-collared (non-rusting )brushes.
BruKon supports both short-term and long-term storage and cleaning of valuable paint brushes for professional painters, artists, and DIY use, but we always advocate for properly cleaning a brush and then storing it upright in BruKon if you have no further need to use it for some time.
What is the life of a BruKon container?
The clear plastic base is UV and chemical stabilised, and the rubber cap is also resistant to sun and chemicals.
Customers report using BruKon containers for 10–12 years. Longevity depends more on care and usage than on material limitations.
How does the rubber cap handle mineral turps?
The synthetic rubber lid and Collar-Washers are specially engineered to resist mineral turps and harsh solvents.
Unlike standard rubber, they do not swell, crumble, or lose elasticity.
Can I use BruKon for different paint types or colours in the same container?
Similar colour ranges (e.g. shades of red) can be cleaned in the same container. Highly contrasting colours like black/white are not recommended to be cleaned in the same container. To clean up after painting, you will need to match the cleaner with the paint type you are using.
How to prevent the Collar-Washer from ripping on install?
They must slide on, so lubricate the brush handle with oil before fitting the Collar-Washer, that way they slip on better. For wider handles, soften the washer in hot, soapy water before installation.
Do Collar-Washers wear out or need replacing?
Collar-Washers are designed to stay on the narrow area of the brush neck, to do their job, but with mechanical wear with usage and over time, they may require replacement.
Can a single BruKon container stand up by itself?
Yes. A single container stands upright alone, but connecting two or more together greatly improves stability to prevent accidentally being knocked over..
Can I purchase BruKon with Amex?
Yes. We accept all major payment methods.
Are BruKon containers reusable?
Yes. BruKon containers are built to last, pass multiple quality control tests, and have been reused by many customers for over a decade.
Is BruKon designed to hold paint?
No. BruKon is not designed to hold paint. BruKon is for cleaning and storing paint brushes by suspending them up and off their bristles in the correct cleaning fluid, preventing bristle damage and extending the paintbrush life.
